West Ham identifies fans who allegedly hit German reporters

LONDON (AP) — West Ham has given police the names of two followers who allegedly struck two German radio journalists at London Stadium whereas broadcasting a Europa League semifinal match.
The Premier League membership investigated after the commentators reported on air that they have been punched by followers seated behind them throughout West Ham’s 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt within the first leg of the semifinals Thursday.
No costs had been filed as of early Saturday.
The commentators — Tim Brockmeier and Philipp Hofmeister — wrote in an article for German public broadcaster HR on Friday that West Ham followers didn’t like their “emotional commentary” after Frankfurt scored within the opening minute and commenced hitting them. They have been hit once more after Michail Antonio equalized for West Ham.
They stated the stewards didn’t assist them and it was solely after Frankfurt’s press workforce contacted their West Ham counterparts that they obtained assist. They have been moved to the primary press field at halftime.
Metropolitan Police stated in an announcement that they’re working with the membership “to find out what happened and to determine anybody concerned in order that acceptable motion will be taken.”
West Ham stated the offenders could be banned indefinitely if discovered responsible.
