Watchdog investigating police-involved shooting of man in crisis in Surrey, B.C. – BC

B.C.’s police watchdog is investigating after a person was fatally shot by Surrey RCMP throughout a wellness verify Friday.

Surrey RCMP stated they have been referred to as to a residence within the 13200-block of 108 Avenue simply after 10 a.m. to verify on the person, who had threatened self-harm with a weapon whereas in a “public place.”

The person was discovered contained in the residence, RCMP stated, and was in possession of a weapon when “pictures have been fired by police.” The person later died of his accidents in hospital.

Surrey RCMP didn’t say what prompted police to fireplace upon the person, who has not been recognized, or what number of officers opened hearth.

The Impartial Investigations Workplace, which is tasked with figuring out if police actions that end in damage or loss of life are lawful, has been notified and is now main the investigation.

No additional data shall be launched by RCMP, the pressure stated.

The IIO has but to touch upon the incident past confirming they have been on the scene.

The world surrounding the scene stays closed off as proof is gathered by investigators.

The incident marks the second deadly police-involved taking pictures in Surrey this month after a person died of accidents he sustained whereas fleeing a failed armed theft on April 1.
