Summerside Fire Department rescues woman from ice one kilometre off-shore

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Members of the Summerside Fireplace Division lately rescued a girl caught on the ice in Summerside Harbour.

At round 9:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, the Summerside Fireplace Division obtained calls from residents who had heard the lady’s cries for assist.

Each firefighters and members of the Summerside Police Service attended the scene.

Upon listening to a shout from the lady and confirming there was somebody on the ice, emergency personnel boarded the division’s ice rescue truck and headed out looking for her.

“We form of had a tough thought, from the place I used to be standing, dealing with west, (she) was at 10 or 11 o’clock,” stated Ron Enman, chief of the Summerside Fireplace Division.

“It was so foggy that you just actually couldn’t see something.”

To assist find the lady via the fog, one of many firefighters introduced out the thermal imaging digital camera. Round 10 to fifteen minutes after arriving, firefighters discovered the lady mendacity on the ice round one kilometre off the shore.

Enman added that Monday’s rescue went easily, regardless of being the division’s first ice rescue in just a few years.
