“The Anti-Racism Desk has been working with the anti-racism coverage advisor and Government Council Workplace to help racialized communities on PEI. Current stories remind us that refined and overt acts of racism proceed to happen throughout our province day by day. Whereas some acts are entrenched in programs and decision-making, others happen throughout social interactions or in workplaces inside our Island communities.
Though extra acts of racism are being reported, a lot of the speedy and long-lasting hurt stay hidden. The dearth of accountability makes reporting a frightening and retraumatizing course of. Centering victims and options, quite than our consolation and the established order, is important in permitting us to collectively perceive the breadth and depth of the issue in addition to the options required to meaningfully handle them.
This can be a pervasive concern throughout many societies. The latest bloodbath in Buffalo, NY is a painful reminder of how deeply entrenched anti-black racism is. We acknowledge the trauma these occasions trigger our communities and the significance of our push for significant change.”
