Karachi, Pakistan-based artist Rabia Farooqui explores the complexities of human relationships along with her work. Educated in miniature portray, Farooqui paints with gouache on wasli paper, assembling objects and figures into charming visible narratives. She describes the characters that she creates as “weak, unguarded, unprotected, and utterly genuine of their present state.” She is considering capturing the “essence of insecure attachments and totally different affection types in relationships,” starting from controlling and demanding to submissive or loving. By anonymizing her topics, she purposefully attracts our consideration not solely to the bodily interactions going down, but in addition to “wider notions of efficiency and authority.”
