P.E.I. Roman Catholic priest charged in alleged sexual assaults dating back to 1990s
SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A Roman Catholic priest is dealing with fees in reference to alleged sexual assaults that occurred over a four-year interval within the Nineties.
Police stated a 69-year-old man was arrested Oct. 31 and can face fees of sexual exploitation and sexual assault.
Summerside Police Companies started investigating after the sexual assaults have been reported to police by the Diocese of Charlottetown in Could, stated Jason Blacquiere, deputy chief, in an interview with SaltWire Community on Nov. 1.
Blacquiere added that the diocese indicated to police on the time of reporting the alleged offences that the priest had been faraway from his duties.
Through the investigation, police realized of different alleged offences dedicated in different areas of P.E.I., and RCMP joined the investigation.
The male sufferer within the alleged incidents was 14 on the time the sexual assaults started, police stated.
The accused has been launched from custody pending a courtroom date in December.
