P.E.I. Museum and Heritage Foundation presents Islanders with 2022 Heritage Awards
Individuals making strides to protect LGBTQ, Mi’kmaq and Acadian heritage have been simply among the Islanders who obtained this 12 months’s P.E.I. Museum and Heritage Basis Awards.
Lt.-Gov. Antoinette Perry offered the recipients with the awards at a ceremony at the Eptek Artwork & Tradition Centre on Sunday.
The awards are supposed to acknowledge the achievements of Islanders who’ve helped protect and promote P.E.I.’s heritage. P.E.I. residents have been invited to submit their nominations for the 2022 recipients final fall.
As a consequence of COVID-19 measures, solely these receiving the award and a single visitor have been allowed to attend.
Here is the listing of the Heritage Recognition Award winners:
- Marlene Campbell – For work selling heritage with Tradition Summerside.
- Doug Kelly – For his service on the Stratford City Council.
- Edward McKenna – For creating and sustaining the Historic PEI Fb web page.
- Geraldine Peters – For work in family tree.
- Dave Stewart – For preserving and sharing 2SLGBTQIA+ heritage.
- Crystal Stevens – For her work on the North Bedeque Faculty and Corridor.
- La Voix Acadienne – For sharing Acadian heritage and tradition.
- Benevolent Irish Society – For offering entry to Irish heritage and tradition.
- Richard Pellissier-Lush – For sharing and preserving Mi’kmaq heritage and tradition.
- Nora MacDonald – For work on the Cardigan Heritage Centre.
- Reg Porter – For his on-line publication on historic mapping on P.E.I.
- Provincial Realty – For restoring 49 Pownal St.
- Phil Culhane – For creating and sustaining PEIPostcards.ca.
The Wendell Boyle Efficiency Award went to singer/songwriter Steven Somers for his album, Songs About St. Georges.
The Boyde Beck Memorial Award for contributions to oral historical past and storytelling went to filmmaker Brian Pollard. The Boyde Beck Memorial Bursary went to Alexandria Wooden.
Katherine Dewar received the award for publication of the 12 months for her non-fiction ebook We’ll Meet Once more: Prince Edward Island Girls of the Second World Struggle, which tells the story of 19 P.E.I. ladies who served within the Second World Struggle.
The Pure Heritage Exercise Award was given to Angela Douglas-Banks for “preserving the pure heritage of P.E.I.”
Shelly Campbell received Volunteer of the Yr for her work with the West Nation Historic Society.
The Award of Honour was given posthumously to Ruby Cousins, a former instructor and family tree researcher who frequently stored a diary for over 40 years. She died in 2020.
