Ottawa kicks in nearly $42M to help Quebec in fight against gun violence

Quebec will obtain practically $42 million from Ottawa to help its struggle in opposition to gun violence and road gangs.

Federal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino introduced the brand new funding Thursday in Montreal. The announcement comes the identical day a suspect in three deadly shootings was shot and killed by police.

“We should cease this violence earlier than it begins,” Mendicino stated.

The cash will likely be used to help prevention plans and efforts already in place to restrict gun violence within the province.

Quebec will help group initiatives aimed toward addressing the “root causes” related to gun crime and “offering younger folks with alternatives to make constructive life decisions.”
