Olafur Eliasson Designs a Canonical Structure with 832 Vibrant Glass Panels That Reflect Sonoma’s Weather

A daring, conical construction stands on The Donum Estate in Sonoma Valley, casting a vibrant kaleidoscope of 24 colours beneath its cover. The work of Studio Other Spaces—artist Olafur Eliasson (beforehand) and architect Sebastian Behmann co-founded the Berlin-based challenge in 2014— “Vertical Panorama Pavilion” is “impressed by the historical past of round calendars,” containing 832 glass items organized round an oculus opening to the north.
Drawing on the microclimate of the winery, the studio constructed the mosaic of translucent and clear panels utilizing meteorological measurements of photo voltaic radiance, wind depth, temperature, and humidity. A winding gravel path results in the outside seating space, and because the solar passes over the world, it drenches the brick building in a full spectrum of coloration, a distinction to the Northern California panorama.
