Off the Page: Authors Meet Their Critics

Within the first episode of Bookforum’s newest sequence, Off the Web page: Authors Meet Their Critics, Pulitzer Prize–profitable writer and critic Margo Jefferson is joined by author and filmmaker Blair McClendon for a dialog about Jefferson’s memoir Setting up a Nervous System (Pantheon), which McClendon reviewed for Bookforum. McClendon and Jefferson talk about the myths and stereotypes of Black divas, borrowing prose, the critic’s skill to problem established hierarchies, and reply to a dwell Q&A.
BLAIR McCLENDON is a author, editor, and filmmaker. His writing has appeared in n+1, the New Republic, the New York Occasions Journal, the New Yorker, and elsewhere. His movie work spans documentary and fiction and has performed at Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, and different festivals around the globe. He lives in New York Metropolis.
The winner of a Pulitzer Prize for Criticism, MARGO JEFFERSON beforehand served as e-book and humanities critic for Newsweek and the New York Occasions. Her writing has appeared in, amongst different publications, Vogue, New York journal, The Nation, and Guernica. Her memoir Negroland acquired the Nationwide Guide Critics Circle Award for Autobiography. She can be the writer of On Michael Jackson and is a professor of writing at Columbia College Faculty of the Arts.
