NYRA suspends Baffert 1 year; eligible to return in January

The New York Racing Affiliation suspended coach Bob Baffert for one 12 months Thursday for repeated medicine violations.

A panel credited Baffert for time served from an preliminary suspension that makes the two-time Triple Crown-winning coach eligible to saddle horses in New York once more on Jan. 26.

The ban is shorter than the two-year suspension Churchill Downs handed Baffert after Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit examined constructive for a substance that isn’t allowed on race day. Baffert’s camp requested for a keep of the NYRA suspension that was instantly denied.
