New legal program aims to reduce barriers for racialized people in P.E.I.

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Neighborhood Authorized Data has opened a brand new first-of-its-kind authorized program for racialized folks in P.E.I.

This system, Justice Avenues, is funded by Justice Canada and goals to make authorized recommendation and data extra accessible.

This system gives authorized data and publications in plain language, assist on navigating the justice system, free authorized recommendation for as much as 4 hours from legal professionals, entry to authorized clinics hosted by Justice Avenues and referrals to different neighborhood helps.

Ellen Mullally, government director of Neighborhood Authorized Data, mentioned racialized folks face extra obstacles when interacting with the justice system.

“Justice Avenues gives assist to scale back these obstacles,” mentioned Mullally.

This system was developed in partnership with BIPOC USHR, the Native Council of P.E.I. and the Immigration and Refugee Companies Affiliation, of which three function an advisory committee.
