Hockey Canada board stands by Scott Smith amid sex abuse scandal – National

Hockey Canada‘s board of governors says it’s supporting president and chief government officer Scott Smith amid requires management change on the group.

Hockey Canada interim board chair Andrea Skinner introduced the backing of the group’s government in a press release posted Monday on its web site.

Canada’s governing physique of hockey is underneath intense scrutiny for its dealing with of sexual assault allegations towards members of earlier males’s junior groups.

The federal authorities froze Hockey Canada’s funding after it was revealed the group had quietly settled a lawsuit with a girl who alleged she was sexually assaulted by members of the 2018 males’s junior crew at Hockey Canada gala in London, Ont., that 12 months.

Since then, Hockey Canada has mentioned members of the 2003 junior crew are underneath investigation for alleged sexual assault in Nova Scotia.

Board chair Michael Brind’Amour stepped down Aug. 6. His time period was set to finish in November.
