Gushue beats Koe to win Champions Cup on Grand Slam of Curling circuit
OLDS, Alta. — Brad Gushue capped a memorable season in model Sunday by beating Kevin Koe 8-5 to win the Champions Cup on the Olds Sportsplex.
It was the ultimate competitors for Gushue’s staff with second Brett Gallant within the lineup. He’ll be part of Brendan Bottcher’s staff subsequent season.
Gushue, third Mark Nichols, Gallant and lead Geoff Walker received Canada’s Olympic trials final November, took bronze on the Beijing Video games in February, received the Tim Hortons Brier in March and took silver on the world championship final month.
On Sunday, the St. John’s-based staff took management in opposition to Koe with a steal of three within the fourth finish. Koe, from Calgary, conceded within the seventh finish.
And within the ladies’s ultimate, Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Man., defeated South Korea’s Eun-Ji Gim 10-6 to seize her fourth profession Grand Slam of Curling title.
