Japanese artist and designer Mariko Kusumoto (beforehand) shapes gossamer coral and sea creatures from mushy fibers like polyester, nylon, and cotton. Embedded with tiny ripples or ethereal pockets, the standalone sculptures and wearables are translucent renditions of lifeforms, and their delicate compositions correspond with the fragility of the subject material. The Boston-based artist tends to cluster the person items into bigger works, creating sprawling reefs and various ecosystems brimming with colour and texture.
Kusumoto is at the moment getting ready for a solo exhibition subsequent November at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Seaside, Florida, and till then, you could find extra of her ethereal works on Instagram.
