Charlottetown Airport expanding terminal, increasing parking fees

Some large adjustments are coming to the Charlottetown Airport in 2023, together with an enlargement to its terminal and a rise in parking charges.
The terminal enlargement is anticipated to be phased in over 4 or 5 years at a price of round $20 million, mentioned Charlottetown Airport Authority CEO Doug Newson.
The rise in parking charges, the primary in six years, will take impact Feb. 1.
“As we glance forward at capital necessities for the airport, we felt it was time for a small improve simply to attempt to sustain with inflation a little bit bit anyhow,” Newson mentioned.
The primary hour will stay free, then will improve from $1 to $1.50 for each half hour thereafter. Each day parking will improve from $15 to $16, and weekly parking from $65 to $70.
As compared, the Moncton airport is growing its parking charges to $20 per day and $100 per week.

Newson mentioned the parking will increase clearly wouldn’t pay for the terminal enlargement. A request for proposal has been issued to rent a advisor and architect, and the airport is getting ready to embark on what Newson referred to as a “pretty aggressive capital program.”
The work will likely be phased in over the subsequent few years to reduce disruption, particularly in the summertime, Newson mentioned. But it surely’s turn out to be clear the adjustments are wanted.
“It’s going to have more room … is the massive factor. We have got a few areas within the terminal which are fairly overcrowded in the summertime. Our maintain room within the departure lounge, our luggage corridor that the shoppers do not see that the airways use, the final check-in space, to call just a few.”
