Canada’s premiers set to meet in Victoria for summer gathering
Canada’s premiers are beginning their summer time gathering at a Victoria-area First Nation the place they’ll meet with leaders of the Nationwide Indigenous Organizations, a set of 5 nationwide Indigenous teams.
The Council of the Federation, representing premiers from Canada’s 13 provinces and territories, are assembly in Victoria Monday and Tuesday.

The Songhees Nation says in a press release that Monday’s gathering of premiers and Indigenous leaders on the Songhees Wellness Centre creates a precedent by holding such an occasion on its reserve lands.
The Nationwide Indigenous Organizations is made up of leaders from the Meeting of First Nations, Congress of Aboriginal Peoples, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Metis Nationwide Council and Native Girls’s Affiliation of Canada.
The opening assembly is being co-hosted by British Columbia Premier John Horgan together with Songhees Chief Rob Sam and Chief Rob Thomas of the neighbouring Esquimalt Nation.
The assembly comes simply over per week earlier than the Pope is scheduled to go to Canada to supply what is predicted to be an in-person apology for abuse suffered by Indigenous Peoples by the hands of the Catholic Church.
