Suspected polar bear spotted on Gaspé peninsula, SQ warns residents

Quebec Provincial Police are warning residents of a polar bear sighting within the space of Madeleine-Centre, Que., on the northern coast of the Gaspé peninsula. 

A citizen alerted Quebec wildlife officers Saturday morning after recognizing the animal close to the location of the previous airport, in line with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). 

Wildlife officers haven’t but confirmed if it’s a polar bear. They’re searching for tracks to find out the presence of the animal.

SQ officers are going door to door to advise residents within the space to remain inside. Police are asking anybody who sees the animal to not strategy it and to name 911. 

Earlier this month, polar bears had been noticed greater than 200 km to the north, throughout the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, within the space of Baie-Johan-Beetz. A polar bear was additionally just lately noticed close to the Innu neighborhood of Unamen Shipu on the Decrease North Shore, which is already south of the animal’s regular habitat.
