Alysa Liu: Olympic figure skater retiring at 16

World bronze medallist determine skater Alysa Liu introduced her retirement on the age of 16 on Saturday, saying she can be shifting on along with her life after having achieved all her targets within the sport.

A two-time United States nationwide champion, Liu made her Olympic debut in Beijing in February and completed third on the world championships two weeks in the past.

“I began skating once I was 5 in order that’s about 11 years on the ice and it has been an insane 11 years,” Liu wrote on Instagram.

“I truthfully by no means thought I’d’ve achieved as a lot as I did… I really feel so happy with how my skating profession has gone. Now that I am lastly performed with my targets in skating, I will be shifting on with my life.

“This skating factor has taught me much more about life than I anticipated. I am actually glad I skated.”

Liu received her first U.S. title in 2019 aged 13, breaking Tara Lipinski’s document to grow to be the youngest nationwide champion, and repeated the feat in 2020.

She completed as the highest American on the Olympics in seventh place, three forward of Mariah Bell, and adopted that up with a podium end on the world championships, turning into the primary American girl to win a world medal since 2016.
