Greater than kind or colour, texture is what preoccupies Carlos Cabo as he sculpts. The Spanish artist, who lives and works in Salinas, is drawn to the tactile qualities of clay and the chances inherent in its malleability. Texture “is what offers (a piece) character, what individualizes it, and primarily differentiates it from different related items,” he says. “I might dare to say that the feel is greater than the pores and skin of the piece. It’s the illustration of its genetic code.”

From lots of the pure materials sourced from the countryside, he shapes tall, slender figures sporting pocked robes, summary items that twist upward, and minimal owl-like creatures, some with modern feathers and others with tough, bumpy plumage. Every ceramic piece is fastidiously molded, fired, and coated in terra sigillata, the lustrous clay slip coating that capabilities equally to a glaze whereas not masking the feel of the sculpture’s floor.

In a notice to Colossal, Cabo shares that his need to differ the tactile components of his apply stems from his childhood. He explains:

I grew up in a rural setting, during which we kids spent a variety of time outdoor, in everlasting contact with infinite objects that served to build up a variety of tactile experiences in my reminiscence.
