P.E.I. women receive RCMP bravery award

Two Prince Edward Island girls who pulled a person from a burning cottage have acquired an RCMP award for bravery.

Emily Chaulker and Jasmine Finley had been awarded the Commanding Officer’s Civilian Commendation for Bravery Tuesday.

In June of 2021, the pair had been heading again to a buddy’s cottage on Driftwood Nation Lane in Tignish, P.E.I., once they observed flames popping out of  the window and door of a close-by cottage.

Finley might hear somebody inside calling for assist so she ran in the direction of the constructing. Chaulker referred to as for help.

Inside, Jamie Matthews was sleeping when he woke as much as a darkish room crammed with thick smoke.

The cottage obtained hotter and Matthews grew to become incapacitated.

Finley and Chaulker ran to the again of the constructing and pried open the bed room window. The pair referred to as for the particular person inside.

RCMP says the actions of Chaulker and Finley doubtless saved Matthew’s life.

P.E.I. RCMP Cst. Jamie Patterson, who was the primary officer on the scene, nominated the pair for the award.

“These girls exemplified bravery and braveness when saving a fellow Islander from a hearth,” says Appearing Commanding Officer Kevin Lewis. “It was an honour to current Emily and Jasmine with the Commanding Officer’s Civilian Commendation for Bravery.”
