Summerside mayoral candidates to debate key issues Oct. 27

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Forward of subsequent month’s municipal election, the three males vying to be the mayor of Summerside will get an opportunity to let metropolis residents know the place they stand on key points.

On Oct. 27, the declared mayoral candidates will voice their opinions, showcase their platforms and reply questions on matters and points impacting town.

As of Oct. 20, 2022, three Summerside residents have introduced candidacy for mayor, together with James Ford, Dan Kutcher and incumbent Basil Stewart.

The nomination deadline is Friday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m.

The free occasion is being held on the Harbourfront Theatre in downtown Summerside in partnership with the Journal Pioneer/SaltWire Community and the Larger Summerside Chamber of Commerce.

“Municipal governance is essential to our members,” mentioned Blake Doyle, president of the Larger Summerside Chamber of Commerce, in an e-mail to SaltWire Community.

Bradley Works, managing editor for the Journal Pioneer/SaltWire Community P.E.I., will likely be moderating the talk.

“The problems that will likely be contested listed here are arguably those which are closest to the residents. That is the meat and potatoes of grassroots politics,” mentioned Works.

He added, “It is also an excellent alternative for voters to actually see who these individuals are, what they stand for and the way they intend to conduct themselves if and when they’re elected.”

Candidates can have three minutes to debate their platforms. Afterwards, the talk begins in earnest.

The talk is free to attend with no pre-booking required. It should even be live-streamed on the Journal Pioneer web site.

Doorways open at 6:15 for an off-the-cuff meet and greet within the foyer. At 7 p.m., the talk begins and can final round one hour.

Residents can submit questions for potential use in the debate online.

The municipal election will happen Nov. 7.
