Charlottetown launches flood protection rebate program

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Metropolis of Charlottetown is launching a brand new rebate program to assist residents shield their houses towards flooding.

The flood safety program provides householders a one-time fee to put in sump pumps, water detectors, alarms and backwater valves. Seventy-five per cent of the price of accepted flood safety units and the labour to put in them are eligible for the rebate, as much as $1,000.

Charlottetown Coun. Mitchell Tweel, who chairs town’s setting and sustainability committee, stated this system’s objective is to assist residents shield their houses from flooding from excessive climate occasions.

Work to put in eligible flood safety units should be accomplished by a licensed contractor on or after Nov. 25.

Rebate purposes shall be reviewed and accepted on a first-come, first-served foundation till April 30, 2023, or till this system’s funding is exhausted.
